WELCOME HOME

Species by the thousands

first discovered this miracle of a company at all points west this past summer. I'm all about everything on their site.

on their about page, they write:

"How do crazy people go through the forest? They take the psychopath.

Species by the Thousands: plants, animals, friends, lovers, monsters, goblins, ghosts, flowers and respect for the environment."

can't get much cooler than that, folks.

tilly & the wall
Tilly and the Wall are a US group consisting of Derek Pressnall (vocals, guitar), his wife Jamie Pressnall (tap dancer), Neely Jenkins (vocals, bass), Kianna Alarid (vocals, recorder, bass) and Nick White (keyboards). The band has gained notoriety for having a tap dancer provide percussion instead of a drummer
...from last.fm
....the percussion is awesome and is what drew me toward them.(even without knowing the fact that they use a tapdancer as theirsource. i first found out about them via daytrotter and then realized
my friend lex listens to them too which gave me, considering her taste in music, further validation. tilly & the wall is a day with friends.

From nylonmag.com;

"TRASH TALK

Sony's new laptop is made from old CDs! Ten million computers are dumped into landfills each year. Two Google searches generate the same amount of carbon dioxide as boiling a kettle. The Vaio W Series notebook is smaller than a piece of paper, lighter than a keyboard, and composed of recycled CDs. Yes, that collection of silver discs you dumped around the advent of iTunes could now make up 20 percent of the very machine you’re using to read this post. It’s not just the reprocessed plastic chassis that’s the result of some intense dumpster diving—the reusable carrying case is made with recycled PET bottles. And though the Vaio W Series Eco Edition 212AX boasts a battery charge of up to seven hours and a 250GB hard drive, when you’re finally ready to dump it, Sony takes care of that in an eco-friendly way, too; the tech company has a trade-in and recycling program for retired computers. But really, what we’re most impressed with is the price; with systems starting around $480, there’s no doubt that our CD collection cost more than double that. REBECCA WILLA DAVIS"

your an ANIMAL!!!!!!

had the best bday evaaaa

cake.

faux bl0w 0ut? wh0 kn0wz
then, this happened...we got a hold of some stickers

not gonna lie though, feelin a lil guilty i 4got proper bday etiquette;

  • The best party times are......1:00 - 3:00 or 2:00 - 4:00
You won't need to serve a meal but a few finger foods are advised
For little ones try 10:00am -11:30 to work around nap time.

BIRTHDAY PARTY INVITATIONS

  • The Invitation Equation:
Child's age + 1 = happy kids
For children under 8 years old, invite as many children as the child's age plus one. Some parents choose to add 1 or 2 to this equation. Only you
can know your limits. Of course, as your child gets much older the formula will need revision.

  • Who to Invite
Parties for very young children, more often than not will include family members; cousins, siblings etc.
As your child gets older, invite only your child's closest playmates.
They already know each other well which makes the party so much more fun! Think about friends from daycare, school, Sunday school, special relatives and neighbors.

  • I don't want to leave anyone out!
This is a common dilemma, especially when your children
begin to attend school. Try to be discreet by mailing the invitations. Speak with the teacher about coming in for a
brief and simple class party. Bring a small party bag (pencils, stickers, balloon) and treat for every student.

Could you first pull out a book and read me some of that

This morning I just realized
that my youth will not last forever.
It's a funny thought,
skin will loosen
sag, stretch, crease.
One day will I look in the mirror
and question my worth?

No, I won't
My teenage years are over
As I enter the third decade of my life,
I like where I am.
Don't want to prepare for to a creased face
aching bones
and decreasing sight.

Today I am free
Will I be in 30 years?
Seems like so far away,
but I know it's not.

Nastolgia

here i am, selling such a simple yet complex vegetable as kale, to this fellow, during our Saturday farmstand markets.

(well, not this one, he's just fetchin himself some wildflowers!) beautiful, nonetheless.

that's right, i worked at a farm this past summer. and i'm going to do it again. there is no better feeling, for me, than to awake at 730 to get out of bed with the most brilliant light pouring in between the curtains, to tend and give love to baby seeds in the soil.

this summer i learned from the best, of the most important lessons in life. it's not about how the world seems, it's about simplicity, seeing things clearly. and what could be more simple, than these baby spinach leaves, sprouting from clean organic soil, to embark on the most healthful of quests from farm to table.

the experiences i had at the summer never ceizes to put a smile across my face. i lived and worked and played music with 5 beautiful strangers that are and forever will be close to my heart.

vegetables are so simple and beautiful. they help to me remind me, when i need to most, that nourishment, care, patience, love, and serenity is the only thing one can give and one needs to help the world become a better place.

maybe these pictures (in all of their glory) will help spread the concept about farming-organic in particular-that's so necessary for humans to grasp. Growing food is humane, it is natural, it is organic in itself. It was (and still is considered) the quest of human action, we are driven by hunger, and as a farmer, one works with and FOR the world. I felt this rewarding feeling when we'd set up our farmstand and watch the families stroll in and oooh and awwww at our hard work. they'd come by the following week, sharing their swiss chard, white onion and basil stromboli recipes. it felt good to know that we had grown this food, and they could share such a special time of day with their family.

This summer, i'll be working at a different farm in NY. I cannot WAIT. All this snow really makes me yearn for those days-- for more information about organic farming in your area:

Snow Baby

10 February 2010

dang, all this snow is really messing everything up. classes are cancelled today, but i've still got things to do, or shall i say an entire poem to read by tomorrow, the Rape of the Lock.

Yesterday, my Seminar 2nd yr English teacher told us, as an introduction to the text, that the Rape of the Lock was about two straight up moral Catholic families that have children the same age. They may be teenagers, I'm not sure. A girl, and a boy. My teacher said, "rape is the force of anything" and a lock is "a piece of hair", so he raped her hair. He used force/threat (whattttuppp sociology's crime chapter) to remove a lock of this gals hair. But apparently it's a parodic poem, or at least the revision in 1714, 2 years later than the first 1712 edition.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the play unfolds, --I'll be reading it allllllll ddddaaaaaaaayyyyyy
